Welcome to PAWS Training Group forum! I am one of the Moderator on here, so if you have any questions or concerns about anything on here, don't hesitate to ask!
My name is Kayla. I am a dog trainer in training for PAWS and Shari is my mentor. While I know a lot from her and what she has taught me in the past couple years, there is still so much more to learn from her!
Right now I only have one dog in my life and his name is Bruiser! He is my German Shepherd/ Siberian Husky mix, also known as a Shepski in the designer dog breed world! It's too girly so I prefer Siberian Shepherd. He and I have quite a history together. He is 6 years old and he will be 7 on November 15th this year. He was a Christmas gift from my dad and the best one yet! But raising a puppy was hard and I had no clue how to train and set boundaries like I do now. I got frustrated when he acted out and I thought it was him being a jerk but it was me. Over the years, he was not socialized properly and became a dog who guarded his family and showed signs of aggression. When I met Shari, she turned my world upside down and showed me what I was doing wrong and helped to fix his behavioral issues and turned Bruiser's world upside down as well! Bruiser at the time was being fostered by my boyfriends family and then eventually to Shari herself! Through patience, understanding and a positive attitude, Bruiser made a great recovery from the damage done. I never thought he would ever get better, but PAWS gave me hope that he could be. He is more confident, loves other dogs, lets strangers pet him, doesn't guard, listens, and is much more relaxed because of the training process Shari guided me through. If I could start over, I would of taken her classes right from the start, had I known. And through all this, building a new relationship and trust with my pup, I found my passion to become a dog trainer. I want to help other people like Shari and PAWS helped me, so that no dog is given up on when behavioral issues can be fixed.
I really hope you all find what you are looking for here at PAWS and enjoy all the topics that we have and discussions here! It's all about keeping it fun! After all, we are all dog lovers!
